The Commercial Press (HK) Ltd is delighted to announce that it is the new owner of Bloomsbury Books Ltd, Hong Kong's legal and professional bookshop. The deal was concluded on November 16th 2005 after several months of negotiations for an undisclosed sum.
Charles Kwan, Assistant General Manager of the Commercial Press (HK) Ltd, which is a member of the Sino United Publishing Group, commented that the acquisition of Bloomsbury Books Ltd brings a new dimension to the Commercial Press retail portfolio. It has an excellent brand name which is recognised in Hong Kong and overseas as a centre of excellence and expertise, particularly in the legal books and subscriptions field. Mr Kwan emphasised that Bloomsbury Books Ltd will remain a stand alone unit in the group and it is business as usual for Bloomsbury which will retain all its direct lines of supply with its suppliers and customers. Importantly, the Commercial Press has retained Lindi Yeo, Bloomsbury's retiring Managing Director, as a consultant to the business. Ms Yeo was instrumental in setting up Bloomsbury Books as a retail business in 1983 and has steered the company for the past 22 years. Ms Yeo sees this as a very positive move forward for Bloomsbury Books and its longstanding and experienced staff, opening up new avenues for sales in Hong Kong and more importantly in China Mainland for the business.
